This course is designed to teach the basics of literature and grammar, including parts of speech and sentence patterns. The student will learn the elements of writing, stressing spelling, punctuation, and paragraph structure. The student will begin analyzing literature in a more mature manner. Poetry, drama, the novel, and the short story will be discussed with much of the literature coming from both fiction and non-fiction selections. Students should be prepared for both written and oral reports/ essays in this course. |

1750 to the present- Age of Revolutions through the 20th Century. Ninth grade students will continue the chronological study of World History. Students will study historic eras, influences of geographical settings, cultural perspectives, economic systems and various forms of government. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the role of citizens and continue to develop their research skills. |

This course is required for all Special Needs students. It is designed to teach the student how their world has developed from the early twentieth century to the present day achievements. Emphasis will be placed on events, the study of maps, and documents that have led to the success of our country. A detailed notebook is a requirement for credit of this course. |

Basic Musicianship is designed to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music. By the end of the course, students will learn/review the basics of reading and writing music, melody and harmony, how to play and read melodies on the piano, learn to read a lead sheet, and learn about some of the major milestones in music from the 1700's to the present. The course is designed for all students. Band and choir members will find their skills increasing be reinforcing these basic concepts. Students not in an ensemble, but who want to learn about music will find they will leave this class with the skills needed to further learn an instrument, improve their singing skills, and knowing enough to join a band or participate in church music. Students should be outgoing and ready to try anything! As with most courses, this class may only taken one time during a students' high school career. |
