Physical Education 1

Physical Education 1 is a combination of team and individual sports with an emphasis on "carry-over" activities. It consists of sports such as: badminton, basketball, volleyball, soccer, physical fitness, football, ping pong, whiffleball, dodgeball, kickball, etc. Grades are based on participation and periodic written skills testes. Personal cleanliness and neatness are also stressed.

This course content is designed to prepare our young people for the decisions they will face in the future and for recognition of the importance of those decisions. To meet this goal, the student will become acquainted with several media sources and a wealth of new information in order to find answers to their many questions. They are encouraged to express themselves both verbally and writing on a high level of comprehension. Thus, the assignments are designed to help introduce fresh material, help student make decisions, recognize dangerous situations and know the consequences of their actions. Many community organizations offer programs to reinforce prevention of the problems that face our young people.

Ethics

Elective For Grades 11 and 12

Pre-Requisite: Teacher Recommendation

This course is designed to prepare students with knowledge on the different viewpoints of many of todays' health related social issues. To accomplish this task, students will be encouraged to display appropriate opinions and to convey messages in a forum of their peers. Students will be required to research various topics and present their findings in various forms, as well as being assessed in retention of material covered. A display of verbal communication skills, intuition, and compromise are imperative. Thus, assignments are based in high levels of insight and effort towards bringing cohesion to the subject matter introduced. In-class guides and supplements will be provided. This course is an elective designed for college bound students and it addresses issues that can contain controversial topics. Some supplements to the curriculum may include permission forms for participation. The class is debate oriented and is based in health, science and history subject areas. Units of study may include discrimination, organ transplants, genetic engineering, abortion, capital punishment, etc.
