Science Courses

STS 1 This class is designed around two of the most fundamental disciplines of science : physics and chemistry. These areas will be taught through minds-on activities that integrate everyday life. Students will see the connections between the sciences and how science is important in their lives. This course is designed to aid freshman in preparing for the Ohio Graduation Test and future science courses.
Environmental Science This course will cover material found on the OGT test including the scientific method. weather and motion. It will also cover topics in ecology, population, energy resources, pollution, and current event topics such global warming.
Biology 1 This course teaches biological concepts by focusing on the 10th grade life science indicators. Concepts, thinking skills, and writing skills will be emphasized. Projects will be assigned that allow for creativity and the utilization of technology. Preparation for the Ohio Graduation Test will be stressed.
Chemistry

This course involves the study of atoms, elements, and the periodic table. It will also include a study of chemical reactions, gas laws, redox reactions, and stiochemistry. Students will explore the impact of chemistry on society and it importance on their lives. Labs will be used to reinforce classroom topics.

Physics This course features adventures in motion, mechanics, sound, electricity, atomics, and thermodynamics. We will play with bowling balls, cars, skateboards, cannons, watermelons, drums, lasers, lenses, batteries, water, computers, and other tools as we explore how our universe really works.
Anatomy & Physiology This course will be an in-depth study of the human body, genetics, population genetics, evolution, and biotechnology, Dissection of animals and animal parts of this course. It is designed for future science majors to get a head start on college course material. Great for anyone thinking of going into a health care related career.
Forensic Science DNA analysis, blood typing, examination of skeletal remains, soil analysis, fingerprinting, and facial reconstruction are a few of the topics that will be covered in this exciting class. The class will focus on the science involved in solving crimes. This is an exciting field gaining popularity! Please not that chemistry is a requirement, so if a student taking Forensic drops chemistry. Forensic must also be dropped.
AP Chemistry This class covers topics on matter, atoms, stiochemistry, solutions, and therno chemistry, electronic structure, bonding, gases, chemical equilibria and electrochemistry. The course is designed to prepare students for passage of the AP test in May of each year. A grade of 3 or higher is usually accepted by most universities and colleges as credit for one year of freshman chemistry. The class is laboratory based so many topics will include labs along with lecture. Chemistry : the Central Science by Brown-Lemay is the text used.
