For families who are anxious to see how much aide they qualify through the FAFSA, you can go to www.FAFSA4caster.ed.gov to get an estimate based on income from 2011. Do not fail to fill out the FAFSA in January 2012. If something happens to a parent mid-year in a child's college education, he can be re-considered for aide even if he did not qualify at first. |

STUDENTS, please have your parents check with their places of employment and ask if that company or any affiliates (such as unions) is giving a scholarship. We never find out about these, but your parents could do so. It may mean $1000 for you in scholarship money.
College Scholarships in Ohio, a new web page which lists and links to virtually every post-secondary educational option in Ohio.
Elsewhere on the website are similar pages for all other states, a list of nearly 60 no-cost scholarship search sites, a quick and easy online GPA calculator , a list of colleges with comprehensive programs for students with learning disabilities, and much, much more.
Seniors - Do one of your parents or guardians belong to the Hall of Fame Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO? If so you may want to apply for the $500 scholarship they are awarding to children of members in good standing. Deadline for the application to REACH THEM is June 8, so you need to mail it by Monday, June 4. You must request the application by writing to the following address:

The First Town Days Festival Scholarship, in memory of Al Maloney, is now available in Mrs. Schram's office. To apply, you must write an essay, have 2 letters of recommendation, obtain an official transcript with ACT scores, and submit your application to Mrs. Schram before Wed., May 23 - the seniors last day of school.
The 2012 CSO Opportunity Scholarship is now available. This is a $2000 four-year renewable scholarship awarded to first generation college stuents graduating in the Class of 2012, who will enter a CSO College Partner in the fall. To be eligible, neither of your parents can have earned a 4-yr. college degree, you must attend a CSO partner college or university (Miami of Ohio, KSU main, and others), be involved in extracurricular and leadership programs in school or community, and be seeking financial aid support for college. Deadline is May 25. 1. AK Steel - for students majoring in STEM fields (particularly metallurgy). STEM is science, tech., engineering and math.
2. Wayne White/Bob Evans - for 16 seniors, based on need and commitment to pursuing an education.
3. Ora E. Anderson - for seniors who pursue studies associated with the natural sciences. He spent his life helping conserve Appalachian Ohio's natural environment.
4. Ariana R. Ulloa - Scholarships support international students in any field of study or students pursuing a degree in international studies.
Fashion-Schools.org is offering its first "Aspiring Fashion Professional" Scholarship. High school seniors who are interested in pursuing a fashion career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college may win $1000 by applying at http://www.fashion-schools.org/ Scroll down to the bottom of the page to access the scholarship. No deadline was mentioned in the e-mail we received.
The Compare Cards Scholarship is now available online at - http://www.comparecards.com/about/credit-cards-scholarship To win this scholarship, students must submit a short (500-1000 word) essay on one of the following topics:
1. What is the positive impact that debt can have on a student? Is there a positive impact?
2. If you are awarded this scholarship, what does it mean to be financially responsible in college?

CCAD (Columbus College of Art and Design) has several scholarships available for those who have applied and have been accepted to their campus. Go to www.ccad.edu to apply.
The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship is a $5000 award for a senior or first-year college student. The winner will be the one who provides the most comprehensive answers to the 2 questions below. Write it in Google Office or Microsoft Word, attach it to an e0mail and send to: studentaward@fitnessexercises.tv There is no other application. Deadline is 5/30/12

Cleveland State University has just released information on a Freshman Scholars 3 + 2 program where you can earn up to $5000 per year for 4 years, totalling $20,000. To qualify, you must have a 3.0 gpa and an ACT of 23. Then you must choose to live in the Euclid Commons or Fenn Tower dorm. The scholarship is automatically awarded to students who qualify and no extra application is necessary.
There is also the ELKS Emergency Educational Grant for children of deceased or totally disabled Elks. It is available between July 1 and December 31 of the year in which you will actually use the $4000. If that pertains to you next year, please contact our local Elks organization for more information.

The U. of Akron has received money from the Dept. of Defense for a new corrosion engineering program. This will be the first of its kind in the U.S. and there will be scholarships available. The National Center for Women & Technology (NCWIT) Scholarship Award is available at the state and National Level. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Awardees are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. The Ohio Award honors young women residing in Ohio and Northern Kentucky. An entrant may enter and perhaps win both the Affiliate and national level awards. Up to 10 winners will be selected from among all the Ohio Affiliate applicants, and will be recognized during an awards ceremony. Click here to apply.
