Amber Birch
- is the winner in the Ohio 2010-2011 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. The award ceremony was held at a building called TechColumbus located in Columbus on April 2nd. It began at 2 pm and lasted an hour and a half.
Out of 906 applications, there were ten winners from all over Ohio. Amber received two glass plaques: one to keep for herself and one that will be donated to the school. She also received a green bag that had a variety of smaller items inside such as three $1,000 scholarships to the University of California, the University of Texas, and Muskingum University, an external port adaptor, a mouse pad, a flip video camera, a pen, and a $50 savings bond for college.
What is NCWIT?
NCWIT is the National Center for Women & Information Technology. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Awardees are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing offers both a national and local "affiliate" competitions to generate support and visibility for women's participation in communities nationwide. They are proud to announce 19 Affiliate Award programs serving 20 states and US territories in the 2010/2011 round.
